GABA is a nonessential amino acid / neurotransmitter in the human brain and eyes. It regulates the brain and activity of nerve cells by stopping neurons firing, and, therefore, prevention of overstimulation. GABA, seen as a supplement is supposed to exert a calming, relaxing, and anti-anxiety on the body. However, taken orally, it is totally ineffective because he fails to the brain, and therefore has absolutely nothing about the effect it purports to have. Neurontin (gabapentin) is structurally related to GABA, but the drug has no effect on GABA in the brain (does not inhibit its reuptake, or increasing levels) and it is not converted into GABA. Neurontin is an anticonvulsant, and also has analgesic properties.
