So what is the difference between mass and weight??
I just saw a response to someone elses question by saying that on earth the mass of a body is equal to its weight, yet take away the seriousness and even if the body is weightless, the mass remains constant.
Mass can be defined as any material that forms a structured volume. Unlike other substances that are no mass and can be weighted; Examples are particles masseless described in theories of relativity. Weight describes an interaction between two masses. two masses when touching suffer a force we call weight. We on earth are able to sense weight. More mass, weight more than we feel. The standard kilogram weight is measured on balance is really a comparative measure of the mass. The reason is that on balance the two bodies experience the same acceleration. (Aceleration is a measure of how much you are pushed down by gravity). Thus, regardless of where the ladder is located in the gravity field, it will always be measure the same. However the case is not even in a spring balance, because it directly measures a gravitational force. The scale sea level would read different weight to the top of a mountain. You would not feel the weight if you were near a large mass of Earth. Since you have no interaction mass that you would be weightless but not massless. Nevertheless, the phenomena of gravity will always keep your body in one piece. The purpose of measuring mass and weight Mass is not very clear to most people. It is very confusing, so do not feel bad if you find that way.
