If you listen and read comments offered in recent years, you'd think amateur radio is alive, or worse. Children are not simply more interested in what says, and why should they be? With the Internet, cell phones and computer games, young people have too much fun "other" Things to do and can communicate with anyone in the world instantly. Where in the world of amateur radio no longer?
Although question. Certainly, the hobby has gone through great changes in recent years. The advent of sophisticated equipment has eliminated the need strengthen its own station. Plug and play is the norm today. (Although many amateur radio operators "hams" for us still building their own mini-radios, antennas and other equipment.)
No, the time when a young boy and it often was a boy then, has built a simple radio Morse code, tossed a wire in the tree nearby, and sent its said and dashes across the country are almost completed. But surprisingly many young boys and girls, are entering the hobby. Of course, they still tinkering at home, but these spirited young people also contribute to their community and in the process learn as much or more satisfaction as before. Consequently, there was a slight increase slightly in permits issued in recent months. There are more than 660,000 amateur radio operators in the United States today.
The public service is extremely important for amateur radio operators who volunteer regularly to help their fellow citizens. They provide much needed support Communications for charity walks and runs. But where the Shine is really hams in times of crisis such catastrophic events devastated if community or region to tax on all its resources. The amateurs are ready to meet any time of day, seven days a week. Among the most recent disasters, hams have provided additional support during communication:
 • Hurricane Katrina
 • The hurricanes that hit Texas in 2008
More recently they have assisted in and around Fargo, ND, as an area of difficulty in making responding to the devastating floods caused by the Red River.
How are they in? Remember that radio amateurs have their own equipment and tapes of frequencies. A disaster, natural or manmade, requires a large influx of labor and materials. Amateur operators radio offers both. They bring their radios and other equipment, and by partnering with representatives of the Red Cross, Army or other agencies Hi relief, are able to offer a tremendous amount of help to those who manage emergency operations.
While most radio communication is devoted to local needs during major events like Katrina, some hams send messages to family members outside the area affected. This will bring relief to their relatives living in other parts of the country.
The next time you travel by bike to raise funds for cancer research or some noble cause other side of your helmet radio operators many hams who give generously of their time to help make your event a success. Look around you: You may even spot a young person at the rest stop or finish line. They are the future, yes, the future of amateur radio.
